我也选的A。说选E的理由是平行结构，可是哪跟哪平行啊？

by drawing body heat from the sun, instead of generating body heat by burning calories，这才平行啊。E不是也很乱吗，前面是分词，后面又是名词的

而且A意思也通啊，通过日照获得体温，而不是燃烧热量产生体温

i think the answer is E. cuz' the "it" in choice A has no reference. you cannot use "it" to refer to the heat at that time. that's different heat!  there are some other questions about "it" in gwd.

although rather than is better than instead of. but its not 100% correct! still depends on the sentence and the usage.!

仔细想想之后觉得E是对的，因为这个句子里面,by的结果提前了，读着可能不爽，但是我认为这里比较的是heat的来源而不该包括by drawing这个开头，平行的是heat的来源，也就是heat from the sun 和  heat generated by burning...，
