个人愚见:A的的错并非错在was；而是错在who的定语从句。这个定从歪曲了原文的意思。原文是想说，只有Oneida站在殖民者一边，而定从是说，Iroquois League 站在殖民者一边。

一直没有解决的疑惑：

是不是像A这样，one  of  sth  that，nn说要根据that后的单复数或者逻辑来考虑到底修饰哪一个。

这里没有单复数，就只能用逻辑了，那么也可以判断是修饰one的呀，更何况A还有only。

所以A错在哪里？？？

请大家再讨论，快考了，SC一团遭：（

这道题目的关键是逻辑意思。因为O只可能是League中的一个成员，而不是one of the League，应该是one of the five nations in the League.所以A选项说的O是one of the League逻辑意义有问题。而C中体现出了O与League中的其他5个nations的关系（并列关系），alone替代only的意思，逻辑意义准确。

这道题简直就是一道超级变态题，为了做对它，不仅要知道O是League中的一员，还得知道League和nation的关系，彻彻底底完完全全的违背GMAC申称的考察内容与知识背景无关的原则！！严重建议那帮子丫人赶紧取消这种鸟题。要考也nnd拿去考那些申请北美历史文学program的同志们，偶们做biz的不懂这类破东西！

都不知道Gmac怎么想的，既然是biz school的入学考试，SC，RC和CR当然应该多考一些和经济金融企业宏观微观有关的内容，在不济也得是什么技术革命和人类意识形态的内容。丫就尽喜欢整些女权主义运动，美国文学历史和宗教法律的破事，真mmd的脑子进水！

可是我看到的是

'who' would be appropriate, because, as stacey has noted, 'the oneida' is analogous to 'the americans'. they're a group of people.

this gets complicated with native american tribes. for example,
* 'the iroquois nation' is an 'it', not a 'who', but
* 'the iroquois' is a plural 'who', for exactly the same reason cited by stacey above.

the whole sentence tries to express the individual action of Oneida.

刘易斯语法里面的解释是这样的：
the (only) one of 后面必须跟复数名词，而“ the five-nation Iroquois League" 中心词league是单数的，所以A就被排除了。
希望给后来挖坟的人一点参考啦。。。。
