I received the offer of Phd in Finance from University of Maryland today. The first phone interview was on last Friday. Yesterday, I had a campus interview meeting with faculty member which are nice and easy going people. They are also interviewing other people. Later, I was informed I was admitted and the offer came in email this morning. Here is something about my background: Phd in physics, no finance background, Gmat 770/5.5, all recommendations were coming from Professors in Physics. I think the main reasons I get accepted are my Gmat scores and the maths courses I took in my undergraduate study. I have taken Calculus(I II III), linear algebra, real analysis, topology, PDE,........... I feel I am pretty lucky since I got rejected by Stanford, UCLA, Kellog, Duke, Umich. Although I was put on the waitlist by Cornell, but the chance is not great. I ranked 4th in the17 people waitlist. I just dont understand why they made such a long wait list. Now I realized how competitive the application to fiance phd is. I should have put more concentation on programs with ranking between 20 to 30, not those top ones where I can easily beaten by econ or maths people. Just wish everyone else good luck!!
