Due to the advancement of the Information Technology, computer has become more popular in our daily life. Nowadays, we need it in every aspect of our life. A salesclerk needs it to deal with money, a librarian needs it to manage books, a student needs it to complete his/her homework. So if I were asked what gift should be given to a child, my answer is definitely a computer. I based my opinion on the following reasons.

 

Firstly, computer skill is nowadays a basic skill, which is required in various kinds of jobs. For example, a secretary must have the ability to use WORD; a designer must know how to deal with projects with CAD, and so forth. And I am an undergraduate student; some times our teacher will give some assignments which require searching the Internet for information about the subject. If I cannot use this tool how can I fulfill the task?

 

Secondly, while playing computer games, a child will also learn something from it. Interest is the best teacher. Playing computer is really interesting and fun. When playing FIFA a child have to control 11 people on the playground, in order to win, the 11 players must cooperate well with each other. Thus the child could learn the essential spirit of teamwork. When playing MONOPOLY a child will probably learn how to invest and how to manage his own hotels in the virtual world. When playing WARCRAFT a child will learn more tactics of a battle, maybe someday he will be a commander.

 

Thirdly, through the Internet, a child could touch the world. The Internet developed with the computer. It enables us to get what ever information we want immediately, and makes our planet a small world. Through it, a child could learn whatever he/she wants to know, such as why we have day and night, why our planet is round, and so on. Also a child could use it to communicate people on the other side of the world.

 

In conclusion, to help a child becomes more competitive in the future, and to make his/her life more colorful I would give a computer as a gift to a child.
