I read again the two papers about IS academic job market cometqq posted last year. And I heard a lot about the severe job market and the so-called identity crisis in IS discipline. But I still choose to join an IS program just because I studied and worked in this field for many years and I think my interest, and maybe my strength, is here. Based on my limited working experience as an IT consultant, I think IS should be an important discipline in business school, but how comes current difficulty? Many professors said it is because of the burst of IT bubble, but I think at least it is partly because of the immaturity of this discipline. Maybe this kind of immaturity means also an opportunity for us... 不是有个美国人说过,Crisis(危机) in Chinese has two words, one means danger, the other means opportunity. |
