     这道题目里面，a variation of 的用法好象也不妥当呀，of 如果是on 或者是in好象才对吧？另外答案是d，那么instead应当改成什么才对那？

   Acrylic (paints) are (either) applied (using) a knife or diluted and (spreading) with a paintbrush.
这个句子读得好混乱，请大家帮我分析一下句子结构，我觉得错的地方好象很多，比如applied作为被动语态后面怎么会跟using呢？反正没有读出句子得意思，所以也不知道为什么选d，请大家指教！谢谢！
