Looking back my MBA

I have finished my course work at CKGSB and started my first post-MBA work. Last week, the General Manager of China had a talk with us, new comers of the company. He said all the great civilization started from container. You must have something to hold food or water, so that you can survive and move on...

When I look back my MBA with CKGSB, I recalled Dean Xiang's words: Our MBA students must be 大器. 器here means container, from which civilization started. If as a person we can contain many other different opinions and look at the big picuture of our career and our life. There will be less confusion. If a person can have a bigger container, he/she can give up a lot of other things which may look very attractive, but a barrier to your great future. I would say that CKGSB is doing quite well in this point.

For all of those, who pursue a full-time MBA program, are the person who can give up something. The more you give up, the more you will get back. For those who go to top 10 B-schools in US and the top B-schools of Europe, they give up more and it is reasonable for them to harvest more.

I am happy that I joined a good B-school when I was relatively older. I am more convinced that it is a right decision. Good luck on your MBA application journey.

Thanks for sharing!

I think CKGSB is quite good at positioning and marketing.

Using metaphor is NOT a good way to prove any idea.

3 years ago, I watched a talk show about internet bubble. One expert said it's
good to have "bubble" sometimes like when you are drinking beer.
Another expert said MAOTAI is also a good wine but without "bubble".
I think they are insane. The inability of clear-cut thinking is a national
disease of China.

I think what your boss said is history. Using granary (your boss call it
container anyway) is to save food which can not be consumed instantly. While those
food usually will be eat by rats and other animals before the invention of
granary ( or container ). That make it possible to free a small group of people
in the tribute out of food production. So that they can work on other more
valuable work full timely, such as thinking, making clothes, conquering other
tributes, and invent writing. And then the professional working and products
exchanging enhances the productivity.

But what's the logic on the individual person? Holding a lot of different
opinions can actually make things more confusing. I think the only reason for
you to think more clear about your career is because you are look for it.
Before joining the MBA, I put a reasonable guess here, you have a theory of
what is a good career. What you have learnt in the MBA actually support your
theory. (Believe it or not, most people just ignore those facts that don't
support their snap judgment)

It is absolutely illogical to say " The more you give up, the more you
will get back." For some reason, God just don't make it that way. Some
people think it's a good way to write sales pitch that mainly tackle their
prospect's emotion. But I think not. You have to know what exactly your
prospects what before you start any sales move.

By the way, "
" ancient Chinese use is not for storing food, but for praying
in the ceremony.

Peace.

Dear Klipper, thank you for you feedback! You are right, when you try to understand in your way.

One and half year ago, I gave up a job with salary more than RMB400K a year and a very likly top 10 B-school's offer and joined CKGSB, because CKGSB provided me scholarship and make the dream of MBA easier, at least no need to sell my apartment to realize that. I went to US for exchange and understood that those top B-schools in States can provide much more opportunities than any domestic B-school, including CKGSB. Therefore, to some extend, I feel that it maybe better for myself to go to US to get my MBA.

However, CKGSB got its own uniqness. The school emphasises a lot on trend, value, humanity. All these help me to think in a way that I did not and could not in the past. Now, I can bear my end goal, to run my own enterprise in the future, in my mind, when I am making decision. CKGSB is doing quite well in this regard.

Thank you for your post.

Points taken.

Many people ask me how to avoid writing hype advertisement that people hate to read. This is usually how I tell them. "The only time you write hype ads is when you have nothing real to tell."

Back to the point... What you said in your later reply indecates that you downgrade CKGSB into a 2nd tier category, a subtitution, a cost-effective choice, and a risk-avoiding decision. That is very different from what I heard from Xiang Bing in the past. I understand that it's not easy to tell real, consisting, compelling stories to prospects in the first couple of years on a new program. But that's the only way to market a educational program in my opinion.

Anyway CKGSB still got his chance. There are a large GAP between the supply and demand of well-educated, experienced talents who are willing to work for big companies. However the fresh undergraduates, as you may know, are widely over crowded. I think I read a post somewhere in this forum which says 70% of the MBA students don' t have a clue about what's the best career for them. My personal experience tells me that most working man with 3-5 years of experience are DESPRATE looking for answers to that question.

Peace.

P.S. What you say and how you say it are equally important. If you read your message again, you probably will find a lot of "I feel", " maybe", "at least", or " to some extend". That would be one of two reasons. 1 You are hesitated. 2 You want to tell others that you are more educated.

hi Amarkiu, really thanks for your sharing, it's so valuable to me.

BTW, forgive my curiosity please but how old are you? I'm also "relatively old" and totally no idea if MBA is a right option or not to me....also, did you change your career after MBA or you just continued your previous career path so far?

have a nice day.
