NUS VS HKUST

两所学校选哪个呢？NUS费用大概比UST便宜10万左右。但是NUS课程时间长一点，就业似乎比UST要差一些，不过新加坡欧蛮喜欢的。

Your thinking is so misguided. Tuition should be of secondary concern for your decision. It's a no brainer: go for HKUST. It is so much better in so many ways. If you tell me your major interest, I can provide better advices. First let me tell you why tuition is not important. I will use a numerical example:

Suppose that you pay 240, 000 yuan to go to HKUST. (This is made up but it is in the ball park.) suppose that you are 28 years old. your life expectancy is 88 years. For the sake of simplicity we assume that you can get a zero interest loan for 60 years. (results will be more complicated but the logic will be similar and the conclusion will be the same for non zero interest rate). This means that you will have to pay 240,000/(60x12)=333.33 yuan each month.

Suppose that you will get paid 240,000 yuan after you graduate every year afterwards and your pre-MBA salary is 120,000. your improvement each year is 120,000. every month you have increased your payment by 120,000/12=10,000. The improvement is 9,666.67. You can see now why the tuition should only be of your secondary concern as it is only 3% of your monthly value added.

Suppose instead that you go to Singapore for a cheaper tution, let's say it is really cheap, for example half of the HKUST tuition, 120,000 yuan. which is 120,000/(60x12)=166.67 yuan each month. after you come out of that, you can get a salary of 230,000 yuan close to what you would get from HKUST. You feel really happy but you are wrong in financial terms. your income has increased each month by (230,000-120,000)/12=9166.67. subtract the 166.67 loan, you get 9,000 yuan. Even though NUS is half as cheaper, if you look at your monthly income after subtracting the tuition payment, HKUST is 7% better.

What is the reason people can not think this through? The mistake people have with tuition is that they do not realize  that you pay tuition only once and your benefit from a better education is for your lifetime.

Of course I have made some simplifying assumptions but the intuition is clear. Never care about tuition and you should go for the one you like the best.

HKUST is much better. You should collect more information about facutly strength, student placement, alumni network, industry influence before rushing to conclusions

多谢楼上的解释，当然我也知道费用只是一个原因，问题是两个学校在就业，排名，师资等方面到底有多少差距？谁能给个详细客观的解释啊。

香港科大在世界上更有名气

开玩笑，港科大在世界上的名气有新加坡国立的大？

虽然排名不能完全说明什么问题，但长期在各个排名中靠前的，可以说还是实力派的。就我看到的大学排名，除今年的一个排名外，亚洲大学能经常排在全球大学榜上的就是TOKYO和NUS.

不过还是想知道一下最近几年中国大陆去HKUST的学生有多少会留在香港工作？谢谢！

我有同感. 新加坡国立大学有多年的资源积累和学术沉淀, 值得争取.

不过, 我不喜欢随便拿两所学校胡乱比较一通. 实际上, 其他学校包括楼主在此比较的这些亚洲区学校, 其实都有一定优点的. 为什么偏要一个一个比来比去呢? 这里谁又能把这种比较量化呢?

和哈佛剑桥相比, 大家都是二线队伍而已, 矮子里没有什么高个. 就别再瞎争论啦.
