我去年就是3 yrs pure technical,光target m7,GPA和GMAT都不错,最好的结果也只是waitlist。得到的feedback就是strong academic, but limited professional experiences;另一个学校跟我说,everything's ok, but you don't stand out。
我也觉得software dev experience给我的帮助是巨大的,逻辑训练、multi-tasking,time management等等,communication skills自然不会差,因为经常需要用最简洁的email给一个非英语母语的人解释最复杂的technical problem。但这些在你有一个concrete example前都很难在essay里面表现出来,而这些concrete examples主要就来自project management experience,因为只有跟人打交道的essay才可以让没有technical background的adcom看懂,产生共鸣。此外,这个background把你放在了2 of the most competitve applicant pools - Chinese and programmers. you'll have a really hard time differentiating yourself
所以,如果你是想进*a* MBA program, sure, fire away。如果你想进top 15, doable, if you execute well。如果是非m7不可,it's a stretch
