答案是C，我当时一看a portion of capital就认为是单数用was，这里的portion是不是指collections呢？如何判断这种情况呢？多谢

本题考的是虚拟语气的表达。

if条件从句的谓语动词用虚拟语气，主句谓语动词也要用虚拟语气，表示与现在事实相反。

你最好查查语法书，还有与将来事实相反，与过去事实相反的虚拟语气表达！

我不明白的是，题目中的a portion of capital应该是单数形式啊，难道只要是虚拟语气，不管主语是不是单复数都一概用were？
