What conclusion can be drawn from the information presented in the reading passage and the information presented in the listening passage?
As the reading passage indicates there are mainly three requirements for the scholarship recipients to meet. First, the recipients should be major in Journalism and receive high grades in all chosen courses, especially in the Journalism. Second, activity is also important. Students who are actively involved in various interests will be considered as well-rounded by the committee. Third, the committee is likely to favor those students with warm hearts. The students have to actualize their concerns of the community and the well-being of the people by their practical behaviors.
Based on the listening passage, we can conclude that both of the two finalists are excellent. They both attain high grades in their courses including Journalism. Betty, majored in journalism, is versatile and glad to help in the local hospital. Betty wish to have a career Journalism areas like a reporter. Although Ralph is now major in geography, he is planning to be an investor of Journalism special in science. They have joined in all kinds of activities. What’s more, they both care about the community and the people there as the speaker have listed several of their good deeds.
Independent writing In some organizations, promotions are based on seniority, while in other organizations, promotions are based on performance. Discuss the advantages of each. Then indicate which position you think is best and why.
Different organizations use various promotions in different times. Promotions based on seniority will give people the sense of secure which could lead people work down to the earth and with every effort. People who are prompted by the performance, namely to work more and to earn more, they will face more challenges and maybe have more incentives but they will live in a kind of situation called anxiety. If I was forced to choose one type from these two, I will definitely choose the former one. I have example as follows.
After the 2nd world war, the economy of Japan had boomed and shocked the whole world. The reason for the rising of economy is that Japanese worked extremely hard, there were even people who died from overworking. Why Japanese are so crazy about working for their company? The causes are that they reckoned the company as their homes to live and die with. Patriotism was part of it but there still lied another deep part, that is, the secure sense which the companies present to them. All of the employees were life long employees and prompted by the time length they served the company. Suppose that if we were members of a country which started but lost the war and badly damaged by the war. What kind of things can comfort and ease us? It is the sense of secure. The sense of secure brings people hopes, and hopes drive people to move on.
As I have stated above, to work for secure is very important, in fact, is important to people all the time. Nowadays, the pace of life is too fast, if we do not have a stable work promotion, we may lack of the courage to advance up. Even worse, we will probably be swamped in the endless worries and anxiety. |
