The lecturer introduces researches that proved some of the points in reading to be wrong, while supports other points in reading.

Firstly she illustrates how Gall's doctrine in phrenology disagreed with the fact. While Gall considered the shape and size of human skull relevant to the shape and intellect functions of human brain, evident show that people with small or large heads may achieve accomplishment which does not correspond with their head sizes at all. Similar researches have proved the doctrines of phrenology to be not real science.

However, the lecturer holds recognition about Gall's idea of localization - various mental processes are centered in specific parts of the brain. Evident of this theory includes medical researches showing that brain injuries in different areas cause the impairment of different brain functions. For example, injury in the left part of brain may cause the loss of spelling ability.

It is also mentioned in the listening passage that Gall contributed to other theories in the field of nervous system study. One example is the theory of different mental powers consist the integrated mental processes. The lecturer doesn't show her agreement or disagreement with this view, but confirms that many scientists are still interested in this study and hope to figure out some inner rules of different forms of mental power.

In a word, the lecturer has been disagreed with Gall in that shape of brain has something to do with function, agreed that different areas in brain serves distinct functions, and aware to Gall's other theory of different mental powers.
