Although having a decent-sized vocabulary is quite important in improving your English, it perhaps is more helpful to learn words in some context. That is, rather than reciting and memorizing words from a list (as many of us were taught to as kids, or are still being told to do by certain teachers and instructors), it is much more beneficial to actually learn how to form logical sentences, learn how to hold a conversation about pretty much anything. To be able to use English "naturally," as many wish to do, one cannot be "translating" what one wants to say in his/her head, from Chinese into English; instead, practice forming sentences in English in your head, you'll find it difficult at first, but this will allow you to form much more natural sentences and improve your English much quicker and more effectively. |
