Nowadays, there is a general debate over the topic what advertisements bring us. A considerable proportion of people believe that advertising encourages us to buy things we really do not need. However, others oppose that viewpoint; they argue that advertisements give us introductions of new products that may improve our lives. Facing the problem, I would probably vote for the latter opinion. Among the countless reasons or facts that can strengthen my standpoint, I will present the most consequential and conspicuous ones here.
First of all, no issue is more essential than the fact that, with the help of advertisements, up-to-date products will be introduced to us quickly. For instance, one will hardly know what a new type of computer is, which may be more useful and suitable for him, if he hasn't seen its advertisement. Similarly, some extraordinarily useful products will seldom be known by citizens without the help of advertisements.
Furthermore, behind my preference lies an equally crucial fact that advertisements, in most cases, are excellent guides when we are confronted with a numerous kinds of products and have no ideas regarding what to choose. Take my own experience for example. When I was considering buying a MP3, there are various types in the shopping center. For me, it is quite a tough job to tell which one is the best or at least, better. While walking in the shopping center, I had a glance at an ipod advertisement. It is so absorbing that I was convinced to buy an ipod. Now, it proves to be true that it is of greatly high quality as it is said in the advertisement.
Superior as it is, advertisements also have some demerits. For example, it sometimes encourages us to buy things we do not need, as many people argue. Nevertheless, its advantages carry more weight than that of its disadvantages.
To sum up, given the reasons and facts discussed above, we can safely draw a conclusion that the advertisement is instrumental, rather than detrimental, to our lives, for its introductive functions. What's more, it is also a fine guide when we are choosing some products we don't know much about. In fact, I prefer to watch or read some advertisements before shopping, and usually buy some splendid products introduced in the ads. |
