这句话有木有语病？

楼主想用强调，于是把appealing提前，但貌似Appealing不能放在连词though前面，否则is appealing就连不上，前后脱节。设想一下一个例子：When you are coming, there is a gal waiting for you. 按照楼主的说法，即：Coming when you are, there is a gal waiting for you. 至少我从小到大没有学过coming可以提到连词when前面的语法。

我赞成的正确强调句是：

Though appealing the prospect of renewable energy is, there lies a critical barrier against its broad application.

或者干脆全部倒装：

Though appealing is the propect of renewable energy, there lies a critical barrier against its broad application.

另外，一些中国的英语老师，特别是搞四、六级的说，there has是不正确的说法，正确说法是there is。这个说法也受到部分保守的ESL teachers支持。但到国外的正式网站，国外论文中，there has频频出现。但为了严谨起见，也避免当碰到一个保守评卷老师时，这个地方会造成非议。所以还是用there is比较理想。

我想，楼主的there lies同样适合这种情况。所以建议用there is。

建议，文章里尽量少用there be句型。此外，用这样的though....,....的长句子的时候，尽量要小心，得先明确想表达的重点到底在哪个部分。

有些时候用长句还不如用短句来得直接，表达更明确。TOEFL的文章是学术性的文章，若整篇文章长句过多，特别是在表达不明，句法结构掌握得并不是很到位的情况下，看的人更累。因为不知道重点在哪里。所以，使用长句之后也得考虑一下它们的有效性，是不是能让读者迅速领会到本文的观点到底是什么。写作，该从读者的角度出发阐明自己的观点。而不是只顾写长句，深加工，只要表达完了自己的想法就可以了。

扛不住

以下是引用Joypan在2007-1-6 17:30:00的发言：

建议把and和at the same time同时去掉，换成meanwhile.

因为此处如果再使用and的话，整句话里就出现了三个and,重复率过高了。

meanwhile是副词，不能作连词用，而当两个句子连成一个并列复合句时，必须用连词连接。

所以我赞成的正确说法是：

The cost to convert these sources such as sunlight and wind is relatively high, and meanwhile, special and expensive devices are also needed.

或者按楼上的精神，改成两个短句：

 The cost to convert these sources such as sunlight and wind is relatively high. Meanwhile, special and expensive devices are also needed.

楼上说得对，如果一个词用的频率过高，就重复啦。前后句子如果有转折的承接关系，完全可以用however，nonetheless，whereas等连词来代替and，避免重复。

但上面的前后句子承接关系没有转折倾向，只有并列和递进关系，所以就不得不用and啦，因为用其它词会改变句子原来的含义。这也好比，the这个词，在一句话中，有时别说出现三次，出现上十次的时候都有。就是因为英语中没有其它词可以代替the的功能。

因此，不要一味地避免重复率过高这个小问题，如楼上的姐姐为了避免重复使用and，而选用meanwhile，导致弄出了一个语法错误，这就丢了西瓜捡了芝麻。

对不住！楼上得罪啦！我不想打击任何人，只是见到“错误”，或者说，仅在我眼里面是错误的东西，我就忍不住要指出来，否则我就扛不住啦。望理解!

扛不住

Under these ciucumstances, a substitution for traditional energy is needed and the solution is the so-called renewable energy.

so-called通常作为贬义词，而从楼主文章对renewable energy观点来看，对使用renewable energy是赞成的。所以，用so-called不合适。

这里的renewable energy是说“可再生能源”吗？renewable是可续期的，可延期的意思。不知道用在这，合不合适？兴许可以用revivable energy。

而且，把整个句子后面的一个分句缩减，主谓宾就成了：solution is energy。方法是能源。显然不通，应改为：solution is to use energy. 方法是使用能源。

所以，我觉得更加可行的表达是：

Under these ciucumstances, a substitution for traditional energy is needed and the solution is to use------called in the expert way------the revivable energy.
