one 是代词，还是不定代词，不能单独做主语或者宾语，再者能用one这种数量词做代词的一定是可数名词，怎么可以指代the chemistry of rain呢？

我本来选C的，后来看了一下，我又觉得B不错，后面的the closer...是一个条件句，＝it one came to town closer, the city air became increasingly acidic

我觉得是选择B
原因是：
A Robert发表的report说的是一个他认为的事实，不会用wonld come,
要用也是一般过去时。
B 正确答案！
C缺乏明确的主语，你说一个报告的内容能没有明确的主语吗？
D the more 和increasingly 句意重复
E 破碎句子，缺乏动词

个人感觉，语言的本质在于表达内容，用各种结构啊，手法，什么词语啊都是为了将意思表达accurate,所以我觉得B看着不爽但却最清楚表达了意思！

支持B，我开始选的也是A，当时感觉有点别扭，但不知道什么地方的问题。但后来仔细想，A是有问题的。一般我们只说，the more..., the more...，但忽视了the more 后面的部分。

我认为A有两个错误，一个是acidic应该紧跟the more,

另一个错误是would become,

A应该改为the closer...,the more acidic the city air became.

I think A is wrong because it should be

"that the closer one came to town, the more acidic the city air would be"
