6. Although we could replace the beautiful—but
dilapidated—old bridge across Black River with a
concrete skyway, we should instead replace it with a
cable bridge even though this would be more expensive
than building a concrete skyway. The extra cost is
clearly justified by the importance of maintaining the
beauty of our river crossing.
Which one of the following is an assumption on which
the argument depends?
(A) It is no more costly to maintain a cable bridge
than a concrete skyway.
(B) A concrete skyway would not have any practical
advantages over a cable bridge.
(C) The beauty of the river crossing must be
preserved.
(D) If the new cable bridge is built, most people
who see it will think the extra money well
spent.
(E) Building a cable bridge across Black River
would produce a more aesthetically pleasing
result than building a concrete skyway.

这题为什么C不对?多谢!

My initial reaction is also C. But since you indicated that C is wrong, I think E may be the correct answer. The assumption should be that "the cable bridge is beautiful", then its extra cost can be justified by the importance of beauty.

Is it right?

ya, but i think c is also right? i want to know why not c? i think c is the general assumption, without it, the conclusion cannot be established.

C 的问题在于"MUST",

beauty 在这里只是一个FACTOR,比较另一个FACTOR(cost)重要一些,不一定是最重要的. 只要BEAUTY比COST重要,CONCLUSION 就可以成立.
