Very few Chinese bosses would spend their dear hours writing you recommendations, as is quite understandable. The most pratical way is, therefore, that you draft the letter and let him/her modify. Of course we can imagine in most cases they'd merely give a glance and then sign on it.
You can find a peer (ideally someone in your group) who knows you well to write the recommendation and then have your boss sign it. That way, at least it won't read like your essays and can provide a slightly different perspective.
