Who should take the responsibility of preserving the natural environment, individual person or government？While some people claim that the responsibility of preserving the natural environment ultimately belongs to each individual person, others argues that government should take the main responsibility in this compain. In my view, both individual person and government should be responsible for preserving the natural environment and both the two play an important part in preserving the natural environment.
On the one hand, individuals (persons and corporations ) tend to pursue their short term interest regardless the public good. Although there are some individuals willing to make sacrifices and take the responsibility of preserving the natural environment, most corporations are more interested in their own benefits. The ultimate goal of individuals is to pursue interest. Moreover, the individuals willing to make sacrifices may not really want to make sacrifices, and all that they do are under their goal of maximizing corporation value. Without government, ----. Only government----.
On the other hand, government has the authority and power to regulate individuals and the ability to solve complex problems. Since most individuals will not spontaneously take the responsibility of preserving the natural environment, they may frequently do harm to environment, and bring many environmental problems, when their interests conflict with preserving the natural environment. Moreover, environmental problems are so complex that it naturally requires different departments in the government and social organizations from kinds of different areas to take part in solving problems. Therefore, a universal and powerful organization is needed to solve problems and government is the best one to assume the responsibility and plays an important role in coordinating individuals and the public good in environmental problems.
However, government also need help form individuals. Individuals should be responsible for what they have done to harm the environment, and thus they are supposed to 配合government to solve environmental problems. Moreover, some individuals can supply professional knowledge and expertise and some individual companies can give financial support government.
To sum up, athough some individuals willing to make sacrifices and take the responsibility of preserving the natural environment, most corporations and - individuals -- are more interested in their own benefits. Moreover, the nature of the environment problems need a universal and powerful organization- government to take the responsibility of preserving the natural environment.
