以下是引用nicole2007在2006-9-19 12:24:00的发言:hi Darden students,
would you help me with the following questions?
1. what does Darden feature most?
---Leadership, communication skills, team work, and desire to dive into the cases
2. what kind of prospective students will Darden prefer? i have three years'experience in traditional manufacturing industry, major working function covers strategy and marketing.
---No special preference since Darden is a general management school rather than a finance school or a marketing school. Your background looks good.
3. what do you mean by "strong communication skills" in Darden? I am afraid american culture and communication will be most challenging if i want to do marketing in usa. i don't think two years b-school experience will change this situation tremendously.
---Strong Communication skills in English are required for MBAs in every school if you want to land a job in the U.S., Case discussions and learning teams will stretch you while in the same time challenge you. It takes long time to pick up real American culture things, you are right, two-year MBA is too short to know every thing beyond business. This is true in every B-school for internationals. Brand management in the U.S. is the toughest for internationals; Product management is tough as well but it is doable because this role may need strong quantatitive skills.
4. you've mentioned a chinese person went to marketing function in us. would you introduce more about his/her background?
---Not sure whom you refer to, most Chinese students in the marketing function were hired in those rotation programs that will eventually send you back to China's operation, but I know some of them made it to stay in the U.S.after the rotation. Some times It is a personal choice to stay or leave, sometimes you have no controal at all.
5. i am also concerned about tuition fee and fellowship. will darden suggest other scholarships if they cannot provide more scholarships to chinese students.
---Try your best but do not count on it, which is the same for every top B-school.
6. what is the brand image of Darden in consulting and industries? sometimes students are labeled with school features.
---Darden is a strong school in both consulting and general management. But it depends on which school you want to compare with. You will find a bunch of HBS or Wharton graduates in Mckinsey, but you will still see some Darden graduates as well. Once you get in, a couple of years later, no one will remember where you are from unless you like to mention it; at the end of the day, your job performance means everything. What I can say is that at Darden you do not lose any chance to get in a top consulting firm, and it all depends on your case interviews.
