我认为应该选E

首先，potential的习惯用法是potential for，而不是potential to（参见大全239、300、391），所以我认为这里后接as更好，这里as作“作为”解，表示“作为...的潜力”

再者，A和C中possibly causing sea floor instability被用来表示伴随前面的动作或前面动作的结果，但从逻辑意思看，这部分与前面的任何动作都不构成伴随或因果关系

而E当中，as reservoirs, as causes, and as contributors构成了十分对称的平行，所以更象是正确答案

首先，关于potential，好象在整本大全中都没有出现过potential to的用法。不知楼上的同学能否找到potential to出现在题干中或作为正确答案的例子以支持你的论点。

其次，关于as的用法是引自语法书吗？

再次，成为能量的储蓄池和造成海床不稳定有必然的因果联系吗？

最后，A中将现在分词引导的独立成分插在句中不造成歧义吗？在这个成分前面有两个动作，也就是说possibly causing sea floor instability可以理解为increasingly being studied的结果，也可以理解为 be huge reservoirs的结果。
