好了,关于中国人数的问题,给一个官方版的回答吧。我发email问了Tom Beechy,以下是他的回复:
Our incoming class is very international, from all continents. However, there is no doubt that the largest visible group of students are Chinese. However, a different question is: "Chinese from where?"
A minority of those "chinese" students are coming directly from mainland China. Most are either recent or long-term immigrants from PRC. A substantial group is chinese-canadians, either Canadian-born or child immigrants from long ago, mostly from HK. Other students come directly from HK, Taiwan, and Singapore.
In addition to students of chinese heritage, we have many from other countries of Asian, including India, Thailand, S. Korea, and Japan (not many of those, though).
Yes, we do have students from latin America, but I can't come up with an estimate of quantity. It is a market that we have been developing over the past 10 years or so, largely to add greater diversity to the incoming group. Europeans are fairly few, except for those who had come to Canada for work or family purposes and now are living here.
