我理解where once为"在以前的某个时间点上曾经", 与后来的某个时间点形成对比.

基本可以这样断定：Where once... now...是英文中的一个习惯性用法，意思是“曾几何时... 而如今...”

这也就能说明其他选项不对。

嗯，看来看去，还是这个说法最贴切。我再做这题时，是把where当作对比的意思，once 是曾经一度，所以选出正确答案也就没多加注意思考，在此获益匪浅，谢谢gemj和sbbi的解答。
