我的问题关于E. communal ownership of  land that had been. that had been修饰中心词communal ownership难到不行吗? 系统学习的帖子里说,that修饰要根据逻辑意思判断就近还是跳跃. 而且白勇的书上说,noun 1 of noun 2+that , that修饰谁要用逻辑意思判断.. 怎么就歧义了呢?

I never read those two books you talked about.  But I would not dwell on the fine points that much.  Don't you agree logic and clarity is the number one rule?  

All I know is that

land that had been a pre-Columbian form of ownership respected by the Spaniards

deviates from the original meaning.  The meaning is that they want to return the land to an ideal way of ownership.  However, E sounds like the land was physically that ideal in the past(land that had been).

楼上的意思是communal ownership of land that had been...的that还是有修饰land的歧义.可是我的问题在于,that是否就一定就近修饰?根据逻辑意思,把that理解为跳跃修饰communal ownership不就没有歧义了吗? OG上有许多这样跳跃修饰的题目.如OG109 119 85  不知道我的表达有没有到位. 疑惑中!~~

有点明白了.因为由had been...并不能明确判断出到底是修饰ownership还是land.所以有歧义. 但看下例:

21.With its plan to develop seven and a half acres of shore land, Cleveland is but one of a large number of communities on the Great Lakes that is looking to its waterfront as a way to improve the quality of urban life and attract new businesses.

(A) is looking to its waterfront as a way to improve the quality of urban life and attract

(B) is looking at its waterfront to improve the quality of urban life and attract

(C) are looking to their waterfronts to improve the quality of urban life and attract

(D) are looking to its waterfront as a way of improving the quality of urban life and attracting（C）

(E) are looking at their waterfronts as a way they can improve the quality of urban life and attract

C中that are其实也有修饰lakes的歧义.只是这里由句子意思判断为修communities.ETS这里认为没有歧义(理所当然的认为是修饰communities),自己写出这样的句子. 但在别的考题中出线这样的情况就说有歧义. 真是不负责任~!

不知道我的理解对不对.大家还多多指教
