听说CMU的这个项目在找 SUMMER INTERNSHIP上学校可以给很大帮助, 貌似每个学生比较容易找到, 这也是网上讨论的CMU的这个项目比其他比如 NYC等 的项目强的一个重要地方啦

因为作为拿F1的international student,找 summer internship可是很费劲的呢 !!!

i am also considering for applying financial engineering next year, but for me, the tuition is really a big problem   

compared with the tuition of about 30-40K, say in Columbia, the tuition of CMU is really high ...  why didn't you apply for some other FE programs such as the FE in Stanford/Princeton/Columbia ? Their tuitions are chearper and i think it is easier to get non-cosigner loan for F1 students....

BTW, the tuition for MBA couldn't be cheaper than FE ... how are you going to deal with that ?

好象还是UC BERKELY的最难申请吧, 工作经验绝对是个大问题,

至少对于我来说, 如果(仅仅是如果) 可以被那其他几个学校录取的话, 我不会去CMU, 太贵了, 在项目本身差不多的时候, 我会更倾向COLUMBIA, 又属 IVY LEAGUE, 综合排名也高, 而且学费比CMU要少2万吧

不过没明白你说NYC有没有实习 到底是好还是不好?  我觉得想拿好实习是挺难的吧... 作为F1来说, 所以我说这是CMU的优点...

你要了解的话, 不妨说来听听, 这里估计还有很多人在关注, 一并谢了先

至于排名, 没有官方的...都是感觉吧...呵呵...到是觉得STANFORD的项目上升挺快的...毕竟超级牛校更容易吸引到一流的学生....

NYU只有一年学制，根本涉及不到internship的事情，一年之后，当cmu的同学还在通过学校帮助去找internship的时候，nyu的同学已经进wall street去赚钱了

呵呵..谢谢了..

这个论坛逛过了..不过里面几乎所有或者大多数人都认为这个排名旧了..需要更新了..毕竟这个项目开展历史都不长, 各校发展速度啥的也不一样..

在讨论中, NYU的确还是排CMU之前的时候多, 毕竟地处NY,  而且没那么贵

不过你说不涉及INTERNSHIP的事????  不是吧...?? 在NYC的那些学生, 都是有INTERN的...看他们的CV是这样的....

如果以前有很好的工作经验还OK,要是那么多学CS半路出家没经验的同学, 没有顶级的INTERN 就没那么容易进顶级公司啊...

而且NYC自己也写了..他们是允许直接申请PART-TIME的, 这也是他们项目受好评的原因...

如果你是US CITIZEN, 那NYC的确很好,如果你不是,你是拿F1的...那INTERN绝对是个问题..

Right now NYU is still higher than CMU. As I heard, Wall
Street LOVE NYU students (not only MBA, but also MMF). I have been in
US for so many years and have to say that location is very important
for foreigners (no matter whether you are F1, resident, or citizen -- your English already make your sign),
especially when economy is bad (Sorry, I have such a bad experience
after 9/11, so if any company asked me to a small place to work or
live, I will deny the interview invitation directly -- without any
consideration)



Although the big places have higher living expense, the opportunity it provides will give you much edge in the market.



Let me give an example, do you know how easy for a school in Silicon
Valley (I will not mention the name here since I do not want to incur some
attacks) area students to get jobs? I will tell you it is much much easier than
many top 30-60 universities. Are they smarter? No, not at all. Are they
luckier? Yes, because they are in a good place. That is it.



Basically, near the place where it will provide more opportunities are
important. After all, not everyone is so strong that he/she can load a
job directly from on-campus recruitment. After graduation, all you can
do is to load job ASAP (not to mention the OPT 1 year time limit). Living in a small place, the recruiter will be
very reluctant to invite you to interview -- except you are super bull or the market is too hot. One reason I heard was that
"If I can hire some good guys locally, why bother to pay the air fare
for some remote guys?". Especially for some jobs that may not need very
special skills.



Unfortunately, most people have no choice since the offers from big cities are always so limited ...
