2.It is unrealistic to except individual nations to make, independently, the sacrifices to conserve energy. International leadership and worldwide cooperation are essential if we expect to protect the world’s energy resources for future generations
The issue of whether to expect individual nations to make the sacrifices to conserve energy or international leadership and worldwide cooperation to protect the world’s energy resources for future generations is a complex and controversial one. Different people hold different answers due to their respective point of view. The author asserts that international leadership and worldwide cooperation are essential to do so. In my point of view, all nations, including developed countries or developing countries, should work together to protect our common resources.
For developed countries, they might have already transferred their industry from heavy industries, which consume lots of nature resources, to high technology industries such as IT and Biochemical. For example, American and Japan, they have oil or forest resources in their own countries, but they more willing to buy these resources from other developing country than to exploit from their own. Their economy can afford the price to protect their own nature resources.
For developing countries, they seem to exploit their nature resources excessively. The reason why they doing so is not because they don’t know the importance of resources protection, but because their nation survival and develop is much more important than protection. China, India and Middle East, all these countries have plenty of nature resources than those of developed countries. However, they sill suffer from a nation wide energy shortage. These resources are used in heavy industry such as steel mill, most of which will export to those developed countries.
Both developed and developing countries have realized that over exploit nature resources, even only happened in developing countries, will result in a globe resources shortage and ultimately ruin the whole environment of the earth. Recently lots of nature disasters such as South-Asia Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina have already proved this point. So all nations, including developed and developing countries, should cooperate together to prevent the disaster before it happen. A global wide rule and regulation of exploitation should be set up. Developed countries need to exploit other new nature resources such as solar and wind power as well as help developing country to protect their nature resources and use them efficiently.
In conclusion, to protect nature resources is a common objective for all nations all over the world. Every nation must try his best to reach or help others to reach this objective. A worldwide accepted rules and regulations will efficiently constrain some self-interested and short-eyesight motives. |
