Did MM refer to OG10-37:

37.   While some academicians believe that business ethics should be integrated into every business course, others say that students will take ethics seriously only if it would be taught as a separately required course.

(A) only if it would be taught as a separately required course

(B) only if it is taught as a separate, required course

(C) if it is taught only as a course required separately

(D) if it was taught only as a separate and required courseB

(E) if it would only be taught as a required course, separately

Also, the intended meaning is distorted when the adverb separately is used to modify required, as in A and C, or taught, as in E; B correctly uses the adjective separate to modify course.

Some thoughts:

Rising inventories: an ongoing action

increased sales: a finished action, more focus on the "increased" state rather than the increase action.

Thus, corresponding increase is prefered to correspondingly increased to match with rising.

if not accompanied by corespondingly increasing sales, can lead

"WHEN is used to refer to a condition"。

When indicates a period of time; if indicates a condition.

如果rising inventories是主语的话,即用做单数,应该强调rising 这一动词,故选E,和increase in sales 中的increase 对应,且后面动词用can lead 也是成立的;

cor‧re‧spon‧ding

[
only before noun]
1

caused by or connected with something you have already mentioned
:
The war, and the corresponding fall in trade, have had a devastating effect on the country.

2

having similar qualities or a similar size, position etc to something else
[= equivalent]:
Sales are up 10% on the corresponding period last year.
