Ashridge History
1957: The idea of Ashridge was created by visionaries business leaders from organisations such as Guinness, Shell and Unilever .
1958: Following the Ashridge Bonar Law Memorial Trust Act 1954, Ashridge Management College was founded to deliver Executive Education and Management Research.
1959: Ashridge began to deliver executive development programmes the first being The Ashridge Executive Course which ran 4 times that year. Other programmes included Management for the Small Enterprise, Current Trends in Training and Financial Knowledge for Managers.
1972: The Ashridge Association was set up. This was an association made up of Ashridge past participants, who wished to keep in touch with Ashridge.
Lazell Building a new teaching building was opened named after HG Lazell, Ashridge's chairman of the governors 1963 - 1970 and chairman of Beecham.
1977: Coronation Walk a new residential (32 bedrooms) and teaching building was opened.
1979: The Greenborough Building was opened offering 64 executive bedroom suites.
1981: Ashridge took over the British Transport Staff College.
1982: Following an Appeal to the House of Lords the Bonar Law Memorial Deed of Trust was extended allowing Ashridge to teach internationally.
1985: The Physical Fitness Centre was opened with a fully equipped gym, squash courts and swimming pool for use by participants and staff.
1986: Ashridge Management Development Services the forerunner of Ashridge Consulting Limited (ACL) was set up, offering a unique approach to organisation consulting. Nowadays, ACL works with clients across the world and also delivers a range of open programmes on Organisation Consulting including, the innovative Ashridge Masters in Organisation Consulting. They have the reputation of being the consultants that develop consultants.
Fairhaven teaching building was opened and houses the MBA teaching rooms.
1987: The Ashridge Strategic Management Centre was established founding directors are Andrew Campbell and Michael Goold, world authority in corporate parenting and organisation strategy.
1988: The first Executive MBA programme was run.
1989: The Ashridge Executive MBA programme was awarded AMBA accreditation a quality standard for MBA programmes.
The new Learning Resource Centre was officially opened.
1989: Ashridge acquired Independent Assessment and Research Centre
1992: Set up a satellite office in France: Ashridge International Institute for Organisation Change. Set up to help organisation operate effectively in an international arena by providing support with the human aspect of implementing change.
1993: Launched the 2 year MBA (part time) programme.
1994: A focused marketing and sales effort for Germany, Ashridge serviceburo under the management of Klaus Ekrich was established.
1995: Launched the Ashridge Diploma in General Management
1998: Launched Ashridge Masters in Organisation Consulting
1998: Launched a new corporate identity, which energised and focused marketing activities.
2001: The New Building was opened offering new teaching areas, including focus group rooms. 30 new executives bedrooms replaced the Monks Barn bedroom block, which was redesigned for the LRC extension.
International sales team strengthened by appointments of representatives in India and the Middle East.
2002: Monks Barn the LRC extension opening is scheduled for autumn 2002
