4. It has been said, “Not everything that is learned is contained in books.” Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why? When it comes to the way to acquire knowledge, some people think knowledge gained from books is more important, while others believe that knowledge from experience has more value. It is a little bit hasty to say that knowledge acquired through books is more important, or vice versa.
Nowadays, books that contain a great deal of knowledge are readily available. People can not only get a wide range of knowledge from books in a short amount of time, but also enjoy the convenience that the books offer. People who have literacy skills can learn nearly everything from books, sitting in the library. Moreover, it is hard to imagine how we can have a good understanding of history without reading books. In addition, the knowledge acquired through books is cheaper. If someone wants to know something about foreign countries, he/she does not need to go abroad since there are many detailed tourism books containing lots of the information about these countries.
On the other hand, there are several advantages to grasping knowledge from personal experiences. Knowledge is a treasure, and practice is the key to it. First, it is quite true that not every thing is contained in books. Some knowledge can only be obtained though personal experiences. Take the learning how to swim as an example, people can never learn how to swim by reading illustrative books and not swimming in a real swimming pool. Moreover, personal experiences can give people much deeper comprehension of the knowledge. That is why students in schools should have lots of various kinds of experiences to help them understand and grasp knowledge.
In short, books and experiences are equally important. We have to use books and experiences simultaneously to learn what we want to know. In this way, we can learn knowledge much better.
