讨论一下平行……
1)     Concrete nouns指things, people, places, and even time periods or certain events.
2)     Action nouns指to actions,常常由动词构成,如:eruption, pollution, nomination, withdrawal, development, change, growth。
3)    Concrete nouns不能和Action nouns平行。
4)     动名词分为Simple Gerund Phrases(名词的外表,动词的内在)和Complex Gerund Phrases(彻头彻底的名词),Simple gerund phrases从不和complex gerund phrases平行。
Eg. Wrong: I enjoyed drinking the water AND the wine tasting.
Right: I enjoyed drinking the water AND tasting the wine.
5)    只有complex gerund phrases能和action nouns平行
Eg. Wrong: The rebels demanded the withdrawal of government forces from disputed regions, significant reductions in overall troop levels, raising the rebel flag on holidays, AND a general pardon.
Right: The rebels demanded the withdrawal of government forces from disputed regions, significant reductions in overall troop levels, THE raising OF the rebel flag on holidays, AND a general pardon.
6)     在一系列的action nouns中,总是选complex gerund phrase(常常有观察和of),而不是simple gerund phrase。
 ----以上摘自manhattan SC

not but是平行结构。underlying simplicity是simple gerund phrase,great complexity是action noun(great只能做adj,adv,n),这两者不平行。所以排除BC
instead of=rather than,都是prep,加ving。
主语research是单数,用has,只剩A

选A 吧 ~~觉得A 的表达更符合GMAT的一贯风格 主动优于被动~~~相比较而言 C表达更绕 不直接 ~

C 中 understood 前面必须要有 is
虽然现在 it is produced and understood 是很勉强的平行,但是试问语言怎么主动的understand sth? 谓语动词并列的话就是 by which it is produced and is understood, 但是就算这样,c也改变了句子本身的句意

神贴留名。倾向于A。

这个帖子好悠久了
我选的C, 但是后来发现确实和A语义不同了. 既然C没有其他的错, 还是尊重愿意吧.

这是我在某个gmat论坛上找到的一个GMAT instructor的回复,先给出link:http://www.beatthegmat.com/nature-of-language-t91077.html

**********注意,link里的lz贴出的选项顺序不一样*****************

"Research" is the subject, and "have revealed" is the verb. Everything between them can be mentally deleted as extraneous.

Error #1 - Subject/Verb disagreement. We need the singular "has".

Eliminate A, D, and E.

Let's look at the differences between B and C:

B: processes THAT produce and make it understandable..._____ instead of ______.
C: processes BY WHICH IT IS produced and understood...not ______ but ______.

They are very close here. I don't see anything specifically idiomatically correct, but I would now choose B because it is more actively constructed.

Error #2: Active Voice/Passive Voice

"by which it is..." is just a more wordy and passive way to say "that".

神贴了,讨论了10年~~竟然被这道题也困住了。
我直接选的C~~不知道为什么~~
不过这里的underlying 应该是adj把,修饰simplicity ,所以核心词还是simplicity ~~
