I was very perplexed at the answer and the explanation. "that" in B, to me, should be removed

B用了not..but...的结构为优，而且这个结构必须平行。not a new principle中a new principle是名词，所以but后也要用名词。如果把that除掉，那but后就变成一个句子，又不平行了。
