yes, double space is the line space, you can set it in MS word.

As I know, if you use on-line application, you need to save your essays in TXT format and cut and paste in assigned essay fields. Should not have double spaces..?

No necessary. Usually when you apply online, you will be required to upload the MS word documents. All format can be preserved. After you upload, the file will be transformed into pdf format. You can preview it before you submit your application.

Some schools need you copy and paste. When they ask you to do so, generally, they will tell you that the front and the format are nothing to do with your essays. You don't need woory about this part. The double space is the limitation for the length of your essays, for example, your essay can not over two pages in double space format.
