answer is A.

Quetions:
1) Can the 2nd "as" in A be replaced by "that"? In OG 174, I saw "(C) A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published".

2) In A, I think there should be a "did" before "the civilizations".

3) In A, can "the civilizations" be replaced by "those"?

1，2可以一起看，1可以用that代替，但要注意，如果用that引起的定语从句修饰，从句中要有谓语成分，即flourished/did，就像你第二个问题问的一样。但本题之中没有同时符合这两个条件的选项。这里用the same..as结构，as后用名词成分表示出和the same后内容的同级比较，所以不用加did。

3.这里不能用those代替，因为those没有逻辑上可以指代的对象，名词的复数形式在前面只出现了一个：salt deposits and moisture，those当然不能指代他们了。（其实OG的解释中已经说了这一点）~~

same后是time,as后是civilization.不是同级比较.
即使是,the same...as...就可以省略did么?难道它和一般的as不同么?
