请教OG中关于一个并列的答案,完全看不懂OG里的解释

各位大佬们好,萌新在这里给大家请安了~做OG18 的verbal分册258题遇到一个问题,其中一个答案想不明白:
原题:
Certain pesticides can become ineffective if used repeatedly in the same place; one reason is suggested by the finding that there are much larger populations of pesticide-degrading microbes in soils with a relatively long history of pesticide use than in soils that are free of such chemicals.

答案是A,BCD都好理解,E 里面OG给的解释是
The comparison the finding of much larger populations…than in those that…is improperly constructed in a way that makes the findingappear to refer awkwardly to a discovery of larger populations rather than to a research conclusion about the presence of such populations.

这个解释就很纳闷了,A里面不也是发现有larger population么,the finding that there is sth in some place和 the finding of sth in some place 句意上差别有那么大?还是这个than并列结构在两个答案里面扮演了什么不同的角色?

我的理解哈。 一起讨论。
the finding of much larger populations of pesticide-degrading microbes in soils with a relatively long history of pesticide use than in those that are free of such chemicals...  因为finding后面不是从句,所以红色部分会理解成是much larger populations的定语修饰,所以这个finding就会理解成是” a discovery of larger populations rather than to a research conclusion“.  而finding that从句正好说明一个完整现象的发现。

感谢,这么说可不可以认为 finding of sth 和 find that there is sth,哪怕中文如何理解,在英文里面他应该是有概念性的区别的呢?

E的高度概括是the finding of microbes suggests one reason....
这就不对啦,是pesticide用的久的土地里xxxx microbes更多这个事实是导致 pesticides ineffective的原因,而不是microbes是导致pesticides ineffecive的原因。
这个类似于because ....和because of的区别
