我选的是c，答案是E。求一个满意解释，为什么C不行？ gear to 有这个固定搭配啊

geared toward 用的比较多， geared to 从语法的角度上也没错。
但是我觉得重点是（C）选项里面enhance performance and preparation里面的搭配不对。enhance preparation 本来就很拗口不说， 原句里面提高成绩和做好准备作为两种状态为并列，C里面换了一下概念，把原有的平行结构破坏了。换一下，are geared to enhance athletes' performance and to prepare the athletes. （athletes' 不能用them指代）。这样一来句子还是很拗口，所以不如换成gerund形式。

(B) run-on， 两句话连一起了
(C) Lake Baikal, .........., it holds 代词多余了
(D) While 是连词，不是preposition, 这句话不完整。
(E) 原句说Lake Baikal contains more water than all of the (water from) NA great lake's combined. E句改成了湖之间的直接对比。

我这一题后来分析的就是看more than 后面的比较对象是proportion还是lake vs river。错误项里很多比较对象都不对.    还是感谢！！
