Why a PhD in Management? Getting a PhD is one of the most challenging, ambitious, and rewarding things one can accomplish. A PhD is designed for curious individuals who want to contribute new knowledge and ideas to the world. More than half our PhD students have non-business academic backgrounds such as cognitive science, computer science, economics, engineering, mathematics, and statistics. A PhD in Management/Business provides a variety of opportunities such as faculty positions in business schools, and positions in research or consultancy organizations. Research in business schools typically address challenges faced by industries in a wide range of functional areas. Compensation structures for business school faculty are very attractive, with graduates placing at research schools earning a starting salary in the $150,000 - $200,000 range.
