Then I'll say something about SSE to the OP also:
It's a small place, and the career service on its own doesn't solve many problems you're going to encounter. Its network is highly European and not so many people know stuff about China in detail. That's why it's hard to answer your question about competitive advantage in China - there are a few alumni back in China but I don't think we can speak of network in a meaningful way.
To utilize the SSE degree the sensible choice is to go to a good local company then transfer to an internationally known one, but this will surely require work permits (can hardly be done in the two and half years of study+grace period).
Also I agree follow your heart is important. You will face challenges everywhere, and be disappointed one way or the other, but if you choose something based on genuine liking instead of other concerns, things usually turn out to be better in the end.
Then to Chan - yeah you're right of course, but I don't think the US is all that different in sports related crazy behavior, only mostly from other sources instead of the government. Their lack of self reflection is what keeps bothering me. Sorry OP, didn't mean to hijack your post with these matters do not concern you direct situation.
