SSE:
3. SSE Finance is not an academics program which prepare you for a PhD in Finance (there is no adv microeconomics, time series econometrics and asset pricing, so it is clear)
of course it is still way better than a general MiM.
when compared to ESSEC GE, it is not kind of 2 year vs 3 year. the extra year in ESSEC is for internship. you may extend somehow if you get an internship if you are in SSE too. Cannot compare like this. things are different.

ESSEC:
1. dont expect anything solid or technical from a stand alone business school.
2. dont think that the M2 or PhD stuffs is important. more improtant is to check if ESSEC is a good place for PhD for the field you are interested in.
3. I havent seen people looking towards life in Paris for quite some time. People are talking about the Muslims, Blacks and Booms over there recently.

just follow your heart and go to the one you like more.

如果说SSE的master都不能去申请PhD，那估计全北欧的商学院的master都没戏了，特别还是Finance这种专业。楼上就那么确认SSE没有你提到的那些课程吗？北欧又不是荷兰，根本不分什么就业导向还是academic导向

这些都是master的课程，SSE本身Finance PhD也很好，肯定也有类似课程，说不定也对硕士开放（具体不清楚）

FAST TRACK WITH MSc-PhD PARALLEL ENROLLMENT
If you are a first-year Master student at SSE (excluding the Master Program in General Management), you can apply and be admitted to the SSE PhD Program in the second year of your MSc studies, through the MSc-PhD parallel enrollment scheme. When admitted to the doctoral program, you begin the following Fall Semester in the PhD Program instead of continuing your second year studies within the MSc Program.
