可是their potential as significant contributors 不是和their potential as possible causes有异曲同工之妙吗？为什么前者能说得通，后者说不通，请ESeraph分析得仔细一点好吗？

我的意思是说，gas hydrates有潜力作为huge reservoirs of energy，也有潜力作为significant contributors， 但不能说有潜力作为 possible causes of sth.，从意义上说不通。

A中,possibly causing sea floor instability跟在huge reservoirs of energy，说明是这种能量causing sea floor instability.

gas hydrates “有潜力成为地球变暖的重要原因”，和“有潜力成为海底不稳定的原因”，这两种潜力性质上不是类似的吗？即都是有潜力成为一种现象的原因。

谈不上指教。共同探讨。这道题分歧挺大的。

首先，我倾向于potential to，关于这点我还没有特别确凿的证据。Sorry

第二点，potential as possible casues.你不觉得便扭？“有潜力作为可能的原因”。意义有点模糊吧，到底是什么情况也没说清楚。两个划线词的使用我认为不太合适。用一个就够了.

第三点，句子在谈论gas hydrates，我认为huge resevoirs of energy 和contributors to ..意义是比较平行的，也是一致的，都跟能量有关。但在这两者间加入一个造成海床不稳定的原因，似乎太突兀了。这一点可能有推论的嫌疑，欢迎批评。
