yes.
to be precise, the course you had taken matters, but not the title of your degree.
but in reality, ad com may not have the time to look into it very detailed at the very first hand, so adding a relevant title does help.
P.S.1 well, indeed a finance major, or finance degree, no matter it is bachelor or master, wont help too much for finance PhD application. you maths and econ background is way more important. (of course things is a bit different when talk about accounting and corporate finance side of it)
P.S.2 for your two 60 marks basic maths score, just tell your story you mentioned here in your PS, and if you have tons of good grade in other advanced math course, ad com will believe it.
normally, getting just one course with a very poor grade, and this poor grade is inconsistent with the overall good reason wont make much harm to the overall profile. 人食五谷, 有病太正常了.....
the key point is.......you need something stronger to show that it is just bad luck instead of really cant handle it.
e.g you are a math major student, you get a C in real analysis, but you get tons of A / A- in 5 or 6 other pure maths course, then the ad com will believe that you are sick on the exam date.
if you are a econ major students, you get a C in real analysis, and you don't have other adv math course, and you get tons of A / A- in 5 or 6 other advanced econ course, then the ad com will believe that you are not capable to handle those advanced abstract mathematical proof. |
