Hi Jon,
Thanks for your reply. I think it is better that I introduce my backgrounds first.
My experience:
10 week summer analyst experience at BNP Hong Kong (summer in 2013)
1.5 years in Hong Kong branch of Jefferies, as equity research associate (2014.9 - 2015.12)
around 1 year at a listed company, as corporate finance manager (2016.1 - present)
I graduated from University of Hong Kong, and received my bachelor's degree in Economics with upper 2nd honor in 2014
Other backgrounds
Recently, I had dinner with my current company's senior management, and CFO indicated that I could be promoted to Investors Relation Director and granted stock options, in a few months... If that comes true, I might wait another 2-3 years before my application. Otherwise, I might just launch my MBA application before the deadline of the 2nd round MBA application this year (If the chance of getting admitted in R1 and R2 is almost the same, why not do this year?).
One of my current problems is that I have never taken a GMAT exam before, and I just started my preparations this Monday. I have completed half of the verbal questions in the OG, and the correctness can reach around 90%. Actually, I answered most multiple choice questions in the Verbal section based on my intuition - the incorrect choices just sound too weired. I am not sure whether this is the right way to prepare, but I still decided to take the exam at the end of Oct this year; and if the score is good, I should kick start my applications in November.
My career goal
After working in the investment industry and then in a listed corporate, I think I have a better picture of what I want to do in the future. My long-term goal is to work with a buy side - either a long/short hedge fund, or a private equity firm. In addition, as Chinese enterpreneurs' demand for global asset alloction is rising, and Chinese capital market is still under-developed, overseas investment management experience could help me better seize this opportunity and probably achieve a successful career in the future. As a result, if I am able to get admissions from a sound MBA program, I prefer to work in the finance industry after graduation, for instance, ECM, Equity Research, buy-side companies, etc. So MBA programs with a focus on value investing/finance might be the best fit for me.
Best,
Martin
