这题很容易就排除了CDE选项，然后lz就陷入了婶婶的纠结当中
1）这后面的解释到底是解释什么
2）这里是不是结果状语
我一开始选的是A，主要是考虑结果状语这个我很满意
然后看了OG，上了各大网站，提出一点自己的看法。
这里的, greatly reducing their numbers是最适合下手的地方
SVO, doing
1）看做非限制性定语从句的省略，修饰就近的名词，这里修饰 event
2）结果状语，逻辑主语是SVO
这里其实有很大的争议，一些人说逻辑主语是S，但lz倾向于SVO造成的自然而然的结果这么一说
这样就可以our ancestors suffered an event，造成了greatly reducing their numbers这么一个结果

这样一来，做定语或者状语都说得通，就会造成歧义
所以OG上会有The agent or cause of reducing is unclear.这么一说
(B) that at some time in the past our ancestors suffered an event that greatly reduced their numbers
这里加了that是为了避免在解释具体哪一部分时出现歧义
这里加了定从这是为了避免定语与状语傻傻分不清楚

差不太多，其实很多时候同时出现定语从句和comma+ving修饰时，如果原句很明确的是想修饰一个名词，那么就不要纠结意思上comma+ving是不是表结果，是不是解释说明，还是修饰名词以及其它用法，因为这时用定语从句来修饰一个名词是最佳的选择。

S+V+O, Ving  这个Ving 一定是状语修饰前面的整个句子 且对应【前面从句】的主语
S1+V+O1+THAT +S2+V+O2, Ving  这个Ving 一定是修饰 that 后面那个从句 且对应S2这个主语。。 Bearbabymm姐的几个帖子说的非常详细 你可以再去看一下
所以这里A 选项是最先排除的

不过我们有一个共识 就是 后面的 greatly reducing their numbers 在逻辑上肯定修饰的是 “our ancestors suffered an event”
suffer an event，结果状语是reducing number，的确make sense 不过别忘了还有一点要求就是对应主语。 这里reducing number 对应的主语就是 ancestors ，祖先自己减少number？ make totally no sense。
这里event 本身就是一个“总结词” 和下面的例子不一样  i play the ball, scaring my dog. 这里的球本身不是一个总结词，所用  i play the ball, which scare my dog. 这个句子肯定是错误的。


这题正确的理解是  some anthropologist believe that A XXXXX---that Bxxxx   这里dash 作and 来解释。。。完全不按套路出牌。。。 然后A B 都是主动，所以B 最好用主动表示。
知道正确答案是的确很好解释啦。。


我觉得这题最主要的是这个破折号。。。。 太triky了, 让我压根没觉得这个两个believe that 从句
然后我误选了D。。因为我觉得event reduce number 非常awkward。。。 所以只能用被动 事实证明我太较真了。。。
