People claimed that they attend college and universities for various reasons. From my point of view, all these reasons can be generalized as career preparation. In order to be ready for further career development, people need to prepare themselves in all aspects like professional knowledge, independent research abilities and a network of professionals. Nevertheless, college or university is the best place where people can get prepared.
First of all, career development demand rich knowledge in a certain profession. Knowledge of different areas varies a great deal and demand dedicated years of focused study. There is nowhere other than university that you can study those knowledge in a concentrated manner. College curriculums are carefully designed to establish knowledge foundation for students and to catch up lasted developing trends. Moreover, university courses are schooled by experts, who had accumulated plentiful experiences in their targeted field. Not to mention the resourceful facilities like libraries and laboratories where are ideal to get plentiful supports. Can you imagine anywhere else other than universities where have carefully prepared curriculum, experienced professor, resourceful study material in the same place?
Secondly, future career success demand highly on your research ability, which is trained in your university study as well. University education are different from secondary education, since you not only have to study independently but also to cooperate with other students, under professor's guidance. For example, in an assigned group study on a given topic, you have to collect and analyze information by yourself and give your own opinion. Also you have to communicate with your study group members to accomplish the task, as the assigned task are often too large to be accomplished by any individual in a very limited time. The whole process of research simulates the business challenge that you will face with in your later career. That is, in case, you will have to finish project by collecting and analyze market information yourself and by planning with your colleagues, under the inspection of your manager. Nothing else other than this kind of environment simulation can better prepare you for future career challenges.
Last but not least, you joined a network of professionals in your study field since you study at university. For talented professionals in your interested study field are gathered, in your school, accompanying you though out your school years. You are actually creating a network for your future development, when you are studying and establishing relationship with these talents. You will most probably keep in touch and gain valuable professional information from them, for a long time after graduation. Most probably, this valuable network will last for a lifetime and become another prize that you will win from university study, other than the degree that you will earn .
In short, my concern of the reason why people attend college or university is for career preparation. Since it is college or university study that one can have best educational resource to accumulate professional knowledge, train professional skills, and establish networks between professionals. All of these contribute to preparation of further career development.
170. Groups or organizations are an important part of some people’s lives. Why are groups or organizations important to people? Use specific reasons and examples to explain your answer.
People who have common goal or interest make groups or organizations, which are playing an important role in our life. They are of necessities in improving communication and quality of our life, and making our world better.
The most evident reason is that groups or organizations provide us an efficient way to communicate. By grouped together, communications between people are no longer individually, but through a network of people who share mutual interest. Any person within the group is able to broadcast and receive information in a massive way. The more people there in a group, the faster the information is exchanged. A recent report of saving a girl’s life though Internet information group proved the efficiency to an extreme. The girl was infected an unusual disease during a voluntary medical aid to Africa. The phenomenon is beyond any person’s knowledge on the spot to identify the disease, making them hard to apply proper treatment. Another succour with the girl sent an emergent help request to their group members over the world. Miraculously, an in-time response from a doctor who had experience in South America before saved the girl’s life.
Not only could life to be saved by grouping people together, but its quality to be improved as well. We are so called ‘social animals’ as every one of us needs others.
Groups and organizations bring us enriched colourful and balanced life. For example, we can join a group of singers if we like to sing, a group of dancers if we like to dance, or a group of tennis player if we like to play. We not only pay less effort individually and get more from group activities, but also multiply our knowledge, experiences and happiness by being grouped and organized. Without these groups, where can we better enjoy what life can provide us by being isolated individually?
Last but not least, only by grouped and organized, could we make this world better. It is undeniable that we still face with crisis and disasters whether they are man-made or natural, political or economical. It is good to see that the biggest global organization, the United Nations (UN), has been established after World War II, united for a better world. The UN has been increasingly playing an important role in organizing today’s world issues, though it is still disturbed by discordances here and there. But, it is imaginable, if, without the efforts that UN has been making, how many chaos would have been and will confront to this planet, and how many cares that people need in this world would have been and will be left behind in the merely half century pasted. If we are still looking for the peacefulness and common progress of this world, we have to group ourselves together.
In short, groups and organizations are of such importance to improve communication, life quality, and after all, a better world to all of us, to keep us away from isolation, emptiness, and chaos.
181. In your country, is there more need for land to be left in its natural condition or is there more need for land to be developed for housing and industry? At the first glance of the choice between whether there is more need for land to be in its natural condition or more need for land to be developed for housing and industry, it seems that China certainly need more land for industry and housing development, simply because it has a huge and increasing population of over thirteen thousand million and have strong economy development necessity as a developing country. Nevertheless, I consider it is sagacious to preserve our land in natural condition while keep developing the economy regarding the following concerns. The very first concern is about natural land resource protection, for the simple reason that balanced natural environment is the basis of economy development. Countless evidence has been given that how unbalanced sourcing of land could diminish our economic achievement effortlessly. Increasing arising sandstorms in north central China began to impose negative effect on economy progress in this area. Decreased number of tourist as well as business activity in the season when sandstorm blows, and consequently resulted in a slow down in local economy development. Proved by scientific research, sandstorms follow the deforestation of the shelterbelt westward to this region, which used to be much wide and stronger before. The broken natural balance could not be easily recovered and will continuously affect negatively to the economy development. The second concern is that we do not always need more land for any further development of housing and industry by creating more space on the limited land. According to the latest progress of urban design science and technology, it is technically possible to built urban area where can support more population in an economic and balanced manner. By creating a metropolitan area surrounded by small but fully functioned cities, and by constructing buildings with high space-efficiency, whether for residential or industry, a balance between economic development and limited land resource is realistic. Actually this is a more scientific, economic and environment protective method of industrialization. By centralizing human activity to a limited area, economic activities are speed up while taking less natural resource and produce less pollution. For the reasons concerned above, I strongly commit to the notion that, there is more need of natural resource protection in China's development. By protecting limited natural resource and finding out an efficient and balanced way to develop economy is the right way for China’s sustainable development. Best regards, Jack |
