Our clothes often have significant influences on our behaviors. Sometimes, the influences are so obvious that people often take them as granted; on other occasions, the influences are quite subtle. Clothes, as an important of our appearances, often change our behaviors due to the following three reasons.

The first and foremost reason is easy to understand: people wear different clothes on different occasions, which require or facilitate them to behave differently. For example, doctors in hospitals are usually in white coat, which makes them more professional and gets the confidence of the patients more easily. When they take off their coats at home and dress occasionally, they would feel that they are more parents than doctors of their children. Another case in point is that many companies require their staff to dress in uniforms. The obvious reason is that the workers will concentrate better on their jobs and think more about the unity of the group.

Furthermore, in a more subtle way, clothing is more often than not a good indicator of the personality and the mood. The romantic heroes in books are seldom dressed in unkempt clothes because the authors and readers have some images in their minds. A person will behave more decently and care more about the details at table in a suit instead of clothes with knobby knees. Besides, clothing also illustrates a person’s mood. When one is in low spirits, he or she may prefer some dark color and speak little. Otherwise, when one celebrates his or her joys, bright color is often the priority.

Admittedly, clothing cannot tell the whole story about the character or personality of a person since the inside may be concealed by the appearances. Therefore, we should not judge a person only by the clothing. However, people cannot deny the influences of clothes on themselves. Whenever you are waiting for an interview or some former occasions, please do not forget to change your clothes!
