Did I make a stupit mistake?

I got warting listed by stern.

Not long after I submitted my online app. One of my recommenders told me that he had made a "small mistake" by put another schools name at the end of the reference letter to stern. what could I say to him!

I could only calm him dowm since I really bothered him a lot and I from my heart and soul appreciated what he had done for me.

I then call the stern's adcom, and a nice lady said that was understandable and she asked me to write a formal letter to explain the whole story. I did so. Then got waitinglisted.

Did I make a stupit mistake? If you were in my shoe, what would you do now?

I do not think that it is the key reason for you to be waitlisted... Just personal view.

attic, don't worry, a lot of guys did the same thing and got offer. I mean, a mistake is a mistake. But even it has some negative effect, there is nothing you can do now.

This is not your fault. Every year, some careless recommendators will do the same. I heard a person got admitted by a top school and this person's recommendator just put another top school's name in the reference letter. Adcom can understand that usually each person will apply for several schools and the applicants can't control what his/her recommendators do. Your case demonstrated that you really hadn't read the reference letters beforehand.

Don't worry too much. You are waitlisted because there are too many strong candidates. Try to do something to get off the waitlist.

Actually, your unusal case will attract ADcom's appreciation for your honesty. Probabaly others would rather conceal this truth and keep silence, but you speak it out. To my opinion, Adcom officers are actually nice people, they will apperiate your unusal action.
So, you could calm down now.
