问年纪和学校问题

His target schools are on different levels. HBS is a beast on its own. Applying for HBS is like buying lottery ticket. You might be the perfect candidate but still not get in. HBS is also more selective when it comes to the age of the candidates, international or not. The school prefers students in the same age arrange so it's easier to build camaraderie among them. 34 is old for regular full-time MBA candidate. But if he is really LGBT, it might help.

On the other hand, the other two schools are much less selective when it comes to age. I've heard 38-year-old candidate who successfully got into Wharton. Columbia is much lower than the H/S/W tier, and if he is such a strong candidate, he should have no trouble getting in. NYU and Cornell are both great schools. If he has the time, apply to those as backups.

In the end, it's going to be his choice. The heart wants what it wants. Let him walk his own path.

政府工作背景未见得是一个加分，我觉得楼主和partner应该谨慎一点，申请材料中什么该褒扬，什么该低调一点，需要仔细想想，从美国人的角度来换位思考，看看如何leverage这段经历。HBS一般招3-4年工作经验，平均年龄在27岁左右。CBS其实没有想象的那么简单，我见到过不少人轻敌，GMAT高分、背景爆好，照样被CBS拒（我也很无语）。沃顿每年中国大陆护照的男性招得太少了，也有点彩票的性质在里面。综合来讲，楼主你的partner申请的学校太少了，申5所比较合适吧。BTW，如果非要去Harvard，考虑HKS可能成功率更高、更直接。

not to offend, either yale law--which i more strongly suggested though--or hbs fits him.

he's already so good at chinese politics so what's meaning to learn/what he shall have learned will help him from hks?

law/leverage network in chn g is a way easier story to sell to adcom

finger crossed and wistfully the story i try to sell to adcom for him works

though i kinda messed up with hbs, hahahaha, misspelled marc jacobs

i dont guess there're so many chn governmental employees that have a network connected to nyc super socialites, celebrities say lady gaga, marc jacobs, ryan gosling...

but who knows, any mba program application is like a lottery draw. and i have to work my ass off to get my ass into sloan, my dream school

仁者见仁，智者见智啦。您要是说HKS没价值或学不到东西，那为啥还有那么多中国官员去HKS镀金？秀在CN的政府背景和关系在很多人美国人眼里，就是一个shame，或者有意避免过多接触。没有冒犯的意思，我了解到的事实如此。

none offense taken. but i was born in nyc so i know the tricks

his network is his strength

his weaknesses: 1. age. its a huge huge red flag

2. his background. its too unique. yes, b schools need diversity but they're just additives, or we are for i work in non profit institutions

3. but CBS is never a CN government shamer but a lover. they just leveraged their connection to the top and had a big conference in Beijing

but what made worse for my partner is CBS had his boss's son admitted just two years ago.

so he's quite very likely to get dinged at CBS

but his background is good. if he learnt some lesson, well, mba, too, a contest of speed
