关于svo，ving的问题～

svo，ving 这样的结构中 ving 是只有表伴随（simultaneous wtih main action）和表结果（direct and immediate consequence）两种情况吗？

在OG 12 SC 30 中

这里的protecting 该怎么理解呢？

因为看了很多ving 的用法，所以楼主做题的时候第一个排除了正确选项protecting。。。
