Choices A and B lack a verb corresponding to is and a clear referent for that. Choices C and D are confusing and illogical because their verbs, did and have, cannot substitute for is in the main clause.

请问大家, 为什么like后一定要有is那? Like也可做prep, 并不一定作连词啊? 是不是因为逗号的原因?

另外, 为什么that指代不明呢? That是单数所以显然不能指代young adults, 那么就是指代goal…

Because it is a comparison as a whole, the corresponding structure is a must, as OG said that "containing a subject and verb that correspond to the subject and verb of the main clause".

1. as作介词，[as+N]，意为“作为”；如果是表示like那样“像”的意味，那么就是连词，[as+句子]（也就是说和like一起出现在选项里了，那么肯定是+句子）；

2. like在GMAT改错中常见的是，[like+N]；常见的结构是：like A，B（A，B要是相同属性，也就是说A是这个人，B就算是那个人；不能是A是这个人，B是那个人的work那样子）；

like有时在句末出现替换掉as的选项，成为题目的正确选项，此时，like的形式是[like+N+that---（that从句对N补充修饰）]

你所改的句子也是不对的，因为不符合[like A，B]的结构。

再就是that的指代，B里面问题时for用的不对，A里面that虽然用了of，但是也可以指代前面的单数名词呀。

首先，that不能指代下文出现的东西，只能指代上文（严格的说）

第二，这里的比较是整个句子的比较（从意思上，很容易判断),所以必须有一个连词来连接，所以必须是as

正式语体中最好不要把like当作连词使用，而这里需要一个连词，最好用as；

另一方面，这里的比较是整句的比较，需要一个连词，所以分句的句子成分必须齐全，因此动词必须存在

that指代不明是因为读起来逻辑上that应该指代"owning and living in a freestanding house on its own land "但是却应该指代goal

其实完整的写法是：as it was the goal of earlier generations.

为了句子不wordy，大多数情况下都会把the goal省略的。
