What events make a person an adult? This issue has been much debated for a long time. Different individuals have totally different answers. Among these countless events, there is one that I think important. In this article, I will detail my points of view about it.
The first plain truth, I am presenting here, is that entering college provides enough knowledge for an adult to survive. Once mentioning to knowledge, most of us believe that a person without knowledge is an unfortunate victim in the 21st century, deprived of many opportunities. In order to acquire knowledge, a person has no alternative but to go to college and receive full scale, advanced, updated education, thereby surviving on his own, and making contribution to our society as a real adult can do.
Furthermore, another fact is that entering college will teach us some social skills. A mature adult should be sophisticated and be good at interpersonal relationship. At college, not matter whether in class or in sports fields, a person has no option but to communicate with his/her teachers, tutors, classmates and roommates, and cooperate with colleagues, partners and counterparts. All these social practices help turn an innocent youth to a well-developed adult.
Last but not least, entering college can better prepare future careers for an adult. A mature adult who has a decent career can afford his/her own living and other activities. At college, students can attend co-op programs which are provided by some great companies in the world. After graduation, the student can readily gain a decent job. A student getting the first job means that he/she turns to an adult who can make a living himself/herself.
To sum up, there are a myriad of events that symbol the starting of an adult. However entering college, I believe, is critically important for a person turning into an adult because it can provide us knowledge, teach us social skills and prepare careers for young men.
