关于副词的位置问题

这一题正确答案便是原句，surpassed only by而不是only surpassed by
对于这个only的位置我一直把握不好 大多是靠感觉猜 一直找不到一个明确的方法去确定only的位置

我觉得吧 B最大的问题是  ,+ING 修饰的问题，它修饰的对象不明确。 which 说的是Greek alphabet, 而用  ,+ing 则说的是主句， 扭曲了句意。同时 ，+ing说的是与前面的东西同时发生，可是你这里有加个 earlier BC 17 这样是nonsense的。 选项B的副词位置没有什么错误的吧。

按OG 里的解释说 这里的ing可以 修饰前面的从句里的东西。不过ing修饰主句也没什么错。所以用ing修饰就不清楚了吧

想提问一下：B选项里的 ，v-ing 是不是不能作伴随状语？感觉依稀在Elroy大神的语法集合里面看说如果主句里是已经完成，那么后面的现在分词就不能作伴随状语，只能作定语修饰前面的名词？不知道是不是这样，up up让NN们看到，求解答！

首先comma + adapting 修饰的对象不对。

其次adapting earlier是不行的，comma + ing 必须和主句在相同的时间。
